The Old Weird Harold
With apologies to Bill Cosby, today’s Warped site touches on a subject that I grew up with. There was a generation of kids who had one of the most marvelous toys ever created. It rivaled trains, and was so much fun even Elvis had one (yes, I mean THAT Elvis). So follow the signs to the Warped site for a trip down memory lane.
The site is The Old Weird Harold The Most Dangerous ‘zine in Slot Car Racing (their claim, not mine). This site has just about anything and everything one would want to know about this toy that is great for kids of all ages. There is a directory of hobbyists, a race calendar, photo gallery, and much, much more.
The site has some interesting code and links on it, such as the “Click Here Turbo-Brain”, which takes one to the actual website. They also claim they are 33 1/3% weird and 100% slots. I don’t think they are all that weird, having played with slot cars myself (my favorite was a mock up of the Batmobile from the 60′s TV series). This is a dedicated site to a much ignored hobby, but for those interested in this type of entertainment, it is the end of the rainbow. I rate this site a 7, and for once the Warp-o-Meter agrees with me.
