Dr. Weirde’s Guide to Mysterious San Francisco

I have always known that San Francisco is an interesting city. Unique is another way to describe it. But as today’s Warped site shows, there are parts of the town that are just downright weird, even by California standards.

The site is called Dr. Weird’s Guide to Mysterious San Francisco. Here he tells you about places that the other tour guides leave out. Having lived in the Bay Area for two years while I was in the Navy, I am familiar with the town. Or so I thought until I visited this site.
There is the Monkey Curse, which has it’s ties to the founder of the Church of Satan and the pets he kept. Then the Tunnels in and under Chinatown are shown along with some of the history of them (and you thought Shanghai was a city in China?). There is a paralell between Zippy the Freemason and the TransAmerica Building. Too weird even for me.
The site is the brainchild of Dr. Weirde. Though Dr. Weirde is not a real doctor, he has TWO masters degrees. Take that, Dr. Science! Dr. Weirde has taught at a community college, a university, and in the public high schools, all in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is currently researching a doctoral dissertation on narratives of paranormal phenomena in Morocco. The delightful paperback “Dr. Weirde’s Weirde Tours: A Guide to Mysterious San Francisco” is available in better bookstores in the Bay Area and is distributed through Last Gasp (ph.415-824-6636). Warp-o-Meter rating on this site is an 8.5, and a well deserved one as well.
